Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a Biafran freedom fighter who advocates for the secession and independence of Biafra from Nigeria. Biafra, or the Republic of Biafra, was a secessionist state in West Africa that declared independence from Nigeria from 1967 until 1970. The military of Nigeria moved to invade Biafra shortly after its secession, leading to the Biafra Genocide. Thousands of Biafran civilians and Igbos, an ethnic group, had died.
After many years after the war, in 2014, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu founded the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), with over 50 million members worldwide, to advocate for the Biafra Referendum.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu left Nigeria when his father’s palace was invaded in Afaraukwu. He had been living abroad since then. But in June 2021, he was unlawfully abducted from Kenya and brought back to Nigeria against international law.
RisingSun Charities Organization, an association dedicated to the Biafra Restoration in New Jersey, calls to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We call for the release of the IPOB leader, as the court has ordered. Justice Benson Anya of the Abia State High Court has already ruled in January 2022 that the 2017 arrest of Kanu was unlawful and a violation of his human rights. For this, we ask for the continued support and effort of our fellow Biafrans and allies.
